First Time to Market

Today was the first time I went to market. It was not our true regular market . . . it was the Edible Festival at Fairchild Tropical Gardens in Miami. There were food venders, farmers, and lectures on gardening and food, and various kinds of things, located in a very lovely garden that is currently decorated for Halloween.

Our big thing for sale were our tomato starts and we had seven huge tables covered (top and underneath) with starts. Tonight, we had only one and a half table tops covered, which is great. We also had some summer fruits, honey, and early produce for sale, from several local places as well as our own.

There were droves of people. We were truly busy most of the day, but not jam-packed like yesterday (so I hear). People were throwing questions and money at me. I took money and mostly made the proper change and answered some questions and redirected many. I rearranged tomato plants as they thinned out, and cut samples of avocado and carambola. It was hot, and I forgot my hat. So, I am burned and exhausted, but glad to have that introduction to going to market, since I know normal market will be shorter by several hours. (Thank goodness!) We have one more long event like this one that I know about in a couple weeks at the same place.

Our friend, neighbor, and scheming Lebanese chef Hani gave me a delicious lunch for free (hommos and pita bread) and brought over a batch of goat's milk and ice cream in the afternoon which picked us all up. He takes care of us, that's for sure.

I will sleep well tonight, that's for sure, in preparation for farm work tomorrow.
